The Bare Truth Podcast
'The Bare Truth' is a celebration of the extraordinary in day-to-day living, from the unsung hero to those on a bigger stage. Each week, Julia interviews someone from a different area of interest who is passionate about what they do, who is expressing themselves in their own unique way, and who wants to share what they do with others.
Please feel free to contact Julia with any comments about the show, or if you would like to be interviewed yourself. We also include contact details of our guests where possible - if you'd like more information, why not get in touch?

I had a brilliant evening when Chris Finill came for a run! And to record a podcast – Chris is an international ultra runner over 100k and 24 hour races, and he is an ‘ever present’ having run all the London marathons and all in under 3 hours, which is a world record. He is also training this year to become part of a special band of people who have run a sub 3 hour marathon in 5 decades, as his first marathon was in the 70’s.
In August he is setting off to see if he can run 3200 across America with his friend Steve Pope, they are starting in San Fransisco and plan to finish in New York 3 months later…
He said he wanted to run 8 or 9 miles and so I thought of a route which was mainly the seafront as it is such easy running, but to lengthen my usual 6 mile route, would also take in a part of the seafront I also used to run along in the dark until there was a murder there 5 or 6 years ago. I haven’t run there in the dark since, but decided I felt safe with Chris and he didn’t seem phased by me taking him on the scary route. Maybe though, I didn’t need to announce when we were at the actual spot, as that did slightly quicken our pace! And later in the run, we passed a group of homeless people having a beer together and they called out ‘Death is coming to you…’ but as Chris said, it was a profound and philosophical statement rather than a threatening one.
I had never met Chris before and yet because of running we had an instant bond – a point of reference, an instant understanding and we are also the same school year so we are positioned in history with instant recognition of names and events. And as he said when we were recording our podcast running along side by side without eye contact actually makes it very easy to talk and share, and we were in the dark too, with the sea lapping beside us and the lights of the pier always twinkling ahead and the miles went by.
