The Bare Truth Podcast
'The Bare Truth' is a celebration of the extraordinary in day-to-day living, from the unsung hero to those on a bigger stage. Each week, Julia interviews someone from a different area of interest who is passionate about what they do, who is expressing themselves in their own unique way, and who wants to share what they do with others.
Please feel free to contact Julia with any comments about the show, or if you would like to be interviewed yourself. We also include contact details of our guests where possible - if you'd like more information, why not get in touch?
Running to Learn 51: Hazel McFarlane

British blind sport links with Joggingbuddy
Speaking with Hazel was an inspiration, her energy and enthusiasm for life is tangible. Hazel took up running again three years ago when she lost her sight. She had been partially blind for many years and had been advised 15 years ago to stop running in case it damaged her retina. This was devastating news and when her sight eventually did go, Hazel decided she wanted to turn this into a positive. And so, resumed her running career on the wettest windiest night imaginable in her home town of Troon. She speaks very highly of the welcome her club gave her and of the support of her running guides Graeme and Anne.
As you will hear, Hazel gives so much of herself. Her passion for the sport and the beauty of the outdoors will make you want to go out running straight away.
Joggingbuddy has teamed up with British Blind sport to encourage more people to feel confident to run and to find people who will guide them. Hazel is now planning to run a 40 mile ultra race. I came away from my conversation with Hazel, uplifted and feeling that anything is possible if you set your mind to it…
